2013, A new start!

I’ve been badly neglecting my blogs of late, in fact I haven’t posted since my trip up to see my eldest son in Scotland which seems an age ago!  My readers have no doubt abandoned me, and I don’t blame them in the slightest, but in my defence, I have been ill and my blogs have suffered in the meantime.  But now its 2013! A brand new start! A new year in which to blog till I drop!

Much has passed during my blogging lull, we spent a long weekend in York, luckily my health stayed fairly stable whilst there, but if we had gone for Christmas as I originally planned, I would have been ill whilst there, and I dread to think how that would have panned out!  I’m including a Photo Album of our weekend in York which I hope you all enjoy looking at. We were there for the ice festival, which is an event in itself, but the highlight for me was the carol service on Friday night in the Minster, where I sang my heart out despite my wracking cough, as did Kerri.

Christmas day was eventful in that I did manage to make it through the Christmas dinner at our usual venue the Lane Head Hotel, only to find myself transported to hospital as soon as I arrived back home, with a high temperature. Kerri had to pack and head to respite. Luckily they keep an empty room for emergencies such as Mum’s being ill etc. I felt terrible, and although I hate it in Huddersfield hospital, for once I was glad to be there!  I’m back home now, still complete with wracking cough which I can’t seem to get rid of, and I am feeling really tired all the time. I’m probably anaemic as I have been expecting the announcement that I needed some blood for some time, the amount I’ve lost via the Fragmin injections and frequent bleeds from cannula’s, blood taken etc. It’s a wonder that there’s any left to take!

At our last chemo session, which seems eon’s ago, Kerri and I tried to enter into the Christmas spirit, and at least someone had made an effort to decorate the place to cheer everyone up.

So that’s what has been happening during the last few months that I haven’t been blogging, now its a brand new year, and I intend to write one blog post every week from now on, no matter how boring or uninteresting!

Happy New Year to all my readers who have stuck with me through the silence!

A Spring Clean

I’m currently having  a spring clean of my blogs, so don’t think your off your marbles if every time you come a visiting this way, things have changed beyond recognition. I’m also toying with the idea of changing my WordPress blog title to ‘Neither here nor there’ which sums me up so much more than ‘Technogran’s Tales’

However, my  ex Spacers friends (if I still have any that is) know my diary blog as Technogran’s Tales so it might be confusing for them. (or if they are used to me, then maybe not)

Please be patient and bare with me during this faffing about that I seem to have to do at least once a year. If you want to blame anyone, blame WordPress for constantly bringing out all of these lovely themes!

TG

Change of heart.

Remember how I promised that I was going to leave this blog alone now and not change it anymore? That was before the WordPress themeteam introduced their new theme. Sorry everyone but its changing again! If it’s any consolation, I get on my own nerves always chopping and changing but I do like the new theme, so until the next one I fall in love with then this one will remain.

Illustrating ‘Me’

If any of my readers happened to be loitering around my blog during this last week or so, they might have been annoyed to see countless changes taking place right before their eyes. I’ve been vainly trying to find a new header and background for both of my ‘diary’ blogs over here and on Blogger. It hasn’t really been successful because I have arrived at the conclusion that I have set myself an impossible task. To try and find a header or background that illustrated me as a person and what I am all about, not easy when I am not sure who I am myself! I’m still not fully happy with the current choice. It does reflect one of my great passions of course, steam trains, and the very mysterious dark figure loitering at the kiosk hints at my love of mysteries.

TG  What a wonderful start to the New Year! Keep blogging everyone!

I’m at it again!

No, your not seeing things! No your eyesight hasn’t gone A-wol nor have you stumbled onto the wrong blog by mistake, it’s all my fault, I’ve changed my theme. Actually I can lay the blame firmly at the door of the WordPress Theme Team who have been at it again and found another lovely theme with which to tempt us users with. I love this one! I love the background image, the lovely large text which is so easy to read, I love everything about it.

A guide to the 100 best blogs – part I – Times Online

Just thought that some might be interested in reading this article about blogging in the Times Online site where the author actually states how many Internet users actually blog whether in a professional capacity or not, and why it can become so addictive.  Makes for some interesting reading if like me you are completely hooked on writing a blog.

A guide to the 100 best blogs – part I – Times Online

Just a note about my absence on this blog!

Just a quick head’s up about why you have seen no recent posts to this blog.  I am having problems publishing to this particular blog with Writer and as many of my friends on Spaces will be aware, I won’t post without it!
Hopefully with the Writer teams help, things will soon be sorted out and I can get back to updating you all about our recent exciting adventures, fantastic happenings, not to be missed excursions into the wild blue yonder, and other such stuff as my blog is usually full of. (In other words the usual boring lifestyle of a sad and morose individual  Mother/Granny who really needs to get out more!)  Crying

TG  Hope you can all stand the suspense until I am back on track again! But here is a taster of how thrilled my daughter is to be in my company.

Using Smiley’s in order to place Expressions inside a post.

One of my Spaces friends has made a recent post about blogging and how  hard it is to incorporate how you feel at the time of making the post or during a certain part or sentence in  a  post.

Here is the post in question.

Blogging is Like Talking , Right?

When l blog l want it to read like (sound like) l’m talking to someone. Easy and natural. l’ve noticed that most others do it this way as well. So if l would say it a certain way, l want to write it that way. l almost always use contractions, so that’s what l use in the blog.

l’m finding myself limited by my lack of computer time. l want to express myself in natural, but brief, ways and l don’t know what to use. Exclamations are where l end up most frustrated. Earlier today, l was writing a note and l wanted to write a word that would indicate: the noise one makes when one forces air out the mouth indicating contempt or humours derision. l’ve seen someone use it, it starts with a “p”.

l’m wondering if there’s a correct way to write/spell this: when indicating perhaps “oh, so cute” aww or awe or ahww.

l know some words l might want to use are not “computer” but have been written by many authors. A few l’ve come across, and had the foresight to jot down are: …ahem…Eeeekk!!….Some l wrote down and sadly, lost them 😦

Then too there’s the fascinating world or computer talk. Here’s my list so far – l’ll include the translations for anyone who’s a newer newbie than me:

LOL or lol  = Laugh out loud

LMBO  = Laughing my butt off

ROTFLMBO = Rolling on the floor laughing my butt off (l’ve heard there’s an optional f in front of the first R – l’ll leave that one to you)

PMSL  = Peed myself laughing (Kimmy guessed this one just by looking at it)

TTYS  = Talk to you soon

Well, if friends would be so kind… log in so to speak. Add some talk. Add some exclamations (please). Add some regular words that indicate people doing/thinking – like the example above – clearing throat – ahem.

Now I will  repeat the same post but making use of the Smiley plug in for writer, obtainable by choosing + Add a plug in, then selecting the Smiley one.

Blogging is Like Talking , Right?

When l blog l want it to read like (sound like) l’m talking to someone. Chatterbox   Easy and natural. l’ve noticed that most others do it this way as well. So if l would say it a certain way, l want to write it that way. l almost always use contractions, so that’s what l use in the blog.

l’m finding myself limited by my lack of computer time. l want to express myself in natural, but brief, ways and l don’t know what to use. l’m wondering if there’s a correct way to write/spell this: when indicating perhaps “oh, so cute” aww or awe or ahww.  Thumbs-up

l know some words l might want to use are not “computer” but have been written by many authors. A few l’ve come across, and had the foresight to jot down are: …ahem…Eeeekk!!    Doh….Some l wrote down and sadly, lost them 😦  I dont know

By far the best ones in my opinion are the Insert MSN, Yahoo and Custom Smiley’s available from the Writer plug ins site here at http://gallery.live.com/results.aspx?c=0&bt=9&pl=8&st=5 . Note that you will have to start Writer by right clicking on Writer then selecting ‘run as Administrator’  for them to work correctly in the new beta’s of Windows Live Writer.

that is what Smiley’s are for!

TG  Open-mouthed

I’m Hibernating!

I haven’t been posting as much recently  because there really hasn’t been much to post about! This time of year is always a little bit of a downer for me, I don’t like going out in this horrible weather, in fact, I do a sort of semi-hibernation! Sad

Yesterday turned out to be a lovely day here, and I was annoyed with myself for not going out armed with my camera, as when we did venture out for some shopping in the late afternoon, the trees in the park were looking at their best all decked out in some fabulous autumn colours.

We have recently sent off for a Elf outfit for K who is going as one to a fancy dress party at the day care centre in December. The theme is obviously  Christmas or Panto.  We decided on the Elf outfit because she already has an Elf hat complete with Elf ears sticking out.

Santa's little helper?

It takes an awful lot to motivate me in winter time I’m afraid so my posts will probably be few and far between as there really isn’t much to post about, and I don’t like posting about mundane subjects such as what we ate for dinner etc.  I will try and keep up with all of your posts, but if I don’t comment then do please understand the reason why.  I can’t really do much about my SAD unfortunately as now that I am on these tablets for my heart, I am not allowed to take any anti-depressants.

Just wish that we hibernated instead of choosing this time of year to go plodding around busy shops doing Christmas shopping in such atrocious weather!  I vote we move Christmas to the summer when its warmer (well supposedly warmer!) or of course I suppose that I could always move down under to Australia!
